In many biomechanical applications, the
collision of microscopic particles, under the influence of
interparticle near-field forces, is an important step in an
overall biophysical process. In this communication, expressions
are derived relating the impact velocity needed for two
small-scale particles to adhere as a function of particle sizes,
material hardnesses, densities and interparticle near-field
character.
