In this research we focus on studying the
effect of anisotropy on the homogenization technique based
on two-point statistics. We will investigate how the one-point
and two-point statistical information from the microstructure can
contribute in the calculation of elastic properties of isotropic
and anisotropic composites. For this purpose, the homogenization
relations will be studied in detail and the technique will be
applied to two samples of anisotropic Al-SiC composite that were
fabricated through extrusion with two different particle
size ratios (PSR). The results show that two-point statistics is
capable of capturing the effect of clustering of SiC
particles in evaluating elastic properties for anisotropic
composites. Although the two samples have the same volume
fraction (difference less than 1%), the calculated elastic
constants for both samples are different. The validity of
the results will be investigated by direct comparison with
experimental results.
